Privacy Policy

Karachiwala is an independent civic reporting app for Karachi. It is not a government app, and it is not affiliated with any government agency.
What we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from them. We use this only to create your account; your email and real name are never shown to other users.
- Public profile. The username you choose, an optional profile photo or avatar, and your contribution history (reports, confirmations). This is visible to other users.
- Reports you submit. A photo taken with the in-app camera, your location at the moment of capture (with accuracy), a category, and a description. We never accept photos from your gallery.
- Location. Used only to place your report accurately and to show you the map. We do not track your location in the background or outside the reporting flow.
- Device and crash information. We use Sentry to catch app crashes and errors, so we can fix them. This is configured to strip your identity, exact location, and coordinates before it is sent.
- Push notification token. If you allow notifications, we store a device token so we can tell you when something happens to a report you submitted or follow. You can revoke this any time in your phone's settings.
What we never collect
- We do not ask for your phone number.
- We do not access your photo gallery.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell your data to anyone, for any reason.
How your reports are handled
Every report is reviewed by a human moderator before it becomes visible to anyone else, to catch inappropriate content. Once approved, your report's photo, location, category and description are public, but your name and username are shown, not your email, phone number, or exact account details.
For sensitive categories, your location may be shown slightly offset, and you may be shown as an anonymous “Karachiwala contributor” instead of your username.
Who we share information with
- Supabase (our database and storage provider) and Expo (our push notification provider) process data on our behalf, under their own security and privacy commitments. They do not use your data for their own purposes.
- Google and Apple handle sign-in; we never see or store your password.
- We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party.
Your choices
- You can edit your public profile, username, and photo at any time in the app.
- You can turn off push notifications in your phone's settings.
- You can request that we delete your account and personal data by emailing us (below). We will remove your private account information; publicly reported civic issues may remain as an anonymous public record, since they document real conditions in the city, but will no longer be linked to your account.
Children
Karachiwala is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we make a meaningful change to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
