Reporting a problem

How do I report a problem?

Tap "Report an issue" on the home screen. Take a photo of the problem. Choose what kind of problem it is. Check the location. Write a few words about it, then tap Submit.

Can I pick a photo from my gallery?

No. The photo must be taken inside the app, right at the spot. This way everyone can trust what they see.

Why do I have to write something?

A few words help people understand the problem. Write at least 10 letters. Say what is wrong and where, for example "Gutter is overflowing outside the school gate".

Can I add more than one photo?

Yes. After your first photo, tap "Add another photo". You can add up to 3 more.

What if I have no internet?

Your report is saved on your phone. It is sent by itself when your internet is back.

Why is my report not on the map?

A moderator checks every report first, to keep out wrong or bad photos. Once it is approved, it shows on the map and you get a message.

Why was my report rejected?

A report can be rejected if the photo is blurry, does not show the problem, shows faces or number plates, or is the same as another report. Open the report to see the reason.

After you report

What do the statuses mean?

Reported: waiting for others to confirm. Community Verified: 3 people confirmed it. Responsibility Claimed: an office or NGO said they will fix it. In Progress: work has started. Verified Resolved: it is fixed, and a moderator checked the photo.

Who fixes the problem?

Karachiwala is not a government app. We make problems visible. Government offices and NGOs can pick up reports and say they will fix them. We never say an office received your report unless we have proof.

The problem is still there, or it got fixed. What do I do?

Open the report. If it is still there, tap "Still there". If it was fixed, tap "Fixed" and take a photo at the same spot. A moderator checks the photo before the report is marked fixed.

Can I share a report?

Yes. Open it and tap "Share report". It sends the details and a Google Maps link, so anyone can find the spot.

Your account

Do other people see my name?

They only see your username, never your real name or email. In Profile you can also switch on "Keep my name private".

What are points and levels?

You get 1 point for each report you submit and each report you confirm. At 25 points you become a Verified Contributor, at 50 a Trusted Contributor, and at 100 a Community Reviewer.

What is "Alerts near me"?

Switch it on in Profile to get a message when a problem is reported or fixed within about 2 km of you. You get at most 3 alerts a day. Switch it off any time.

Is this for emergencies?

No. In an emergency, call the police on 15 or Rescue on 1122. You can find more numbers for Karachi in Profile, under Emergency numbers.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Profile, then Edit profile, and scroll to the bottom. Your reports stay as an anonymous record, no longer linked to you.

Can our NGO or government office join?

Yes. Write to us from the Support page. We check each office before giving access.
